Chris & Bridget Brockway
Chris Brockway began making wine in California in 2004, and has been producing exclusively under his own labels BROC CELLARS since 2006. Hailing originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Chris got his start in the industry working at wineries using typically modern inputs – as he likes to put it, learning what not to do.
Now Chris and his partner Bridget don’t add anything to their wines. No nutrients, enzymes, yeast, bacteria, tannins, or other fermentation agents. Organic farming is placed at the forefront, and while not all vineyards are certified, many of them are. The certifying bodies in California include SIP (Sustainability in Practice) and CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers), among several others.
Chris works with many different vineyards and winegrowers, sourcing atypical grapes from overgrown and overlooked vineyards, tapping into the rich wine-growing history of California. These wines are less fruit-forward, less alcoholic, and have less oak influence, the better to showcase a cooler climate expression of California terroir.

2020 AMORE BLENDO
52% Barbera, 24% Sauvignon Blanc, 24% Primitivo. The Barbera, Sauvignon Blanc and Primitivo fermented together whole cluster, layered alternating each variety until we reached the top of the tank and sealed it. True carbonic fermentation occurred. We pressed the wine to age in a 41 hL concrete tank, one of our sandstone terra cotta jars and 2 neutral French oak barrels. This wine walks the line of being a dark rosé and fresh light red. We recommend chilling it down for warm weather enjoyment.
The Barbera and Primitivo are from Fox Hill Vineyard, located between Hopland and Ukiah in Mendocino. The soil is mostly sandstone with rocks and pebbles found everywhere including quartz. The vineyard is farmed organically. Mi Hija Vineyard is a neighbouring site located in the Redwood Valley of Mendocino. The Sauvignon Blanc from Mi Hija elevates the wine by adding a pretty floral note. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically.

2020 AMORE ROSSO
58% Dolcetto, 26% Montepulciano, 16% Sangiovese. The Amore Rosso is historically a 100% Sangiovese blend, but for 2020 we wanted to experiment with blending multiple Italian varieties grown at Fox Hill. Our idea was to make a table wine capturing the feel of an old-school classic field blend. This wine has darker fruit with more structure while still being bright and fresh.

2019 VALDIGUIÉ PET NAT
Ricetti Vineyard is located in Mendocino County, more specifically the Redwood Valley AVA. The Valdiguié plot was planted in 1960 and practices organic, conscious farming – no spraying of any pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers.
The grapes for this wine were foot-treaded and left to macerate on the skins for less than 1 day before pressing to stainless steel. The juice was fermented until 18g/L of sugar remained, when it was cooled down for 2 weeks to stop fermentation before bottling. The bottles were then left on the side for a long 11 months until they were disgorged by hand.

2019 CHENIN BLANC PETILLANT
Chenin Blanc is sourced from the Shell Creek Vineyard, which lies on the east side of the Paso Robles hillsides. The vineyard has a sandy topsoil with calcareous fossilized seashells and marine matter underneath and has been owned & ranched by the Sinton family since the 1870s, with vineyards first planted here in 1972.
Whole clusters of Chenin Blanc were pressed into stainless steel tanks and fermented until it reached 15g/L of sugar. Fermentation was interrupted by cooling the wine down significantly, at which point the wine was bottled and then allowed to warm up very gradually to finish the fermentation until dry & bubbly. The wine was aged in bottle for 4 months before being disgorged by hand.

2020 AMORE BIANCO
100% Tocai Friulano.
Fox Hill Vineyard in Mendocino County.
The wine was fermented on the skins in two sandstone jars and direct pressed into one concrete egg and another sandstone jar to create this 2020 vintage. The juice on the skins in sandstone jars fermented and aged until January when it was basket pressed. The juice went back into the sandstone jars to age for a few more months. All wine was fermented using only native yeasts, no sulfur was added during fermentation or at bottling, and the wine is left unfiltered showing its natural texture. It was aged for a total of 9 months.
Very very special wine, mandarin, pineapple guava and sea salt in your glass.
Fox Hill Vineyard holds a special place for everyome at Broc. They first ventured into Italian varieties when they began making Nero D’Avola, for the “Badger”, all from this site. Then came Amore Bianco and Amore Rosso. The vineyard is located between Hopland and Ukiah. The soil is mostly sandstone, rocks and pebbles are found everywhere including quartz.

GOT GRAPES
Got Grapes is a crushable, chillable delicious drop of natural California sunshine. Started in 2017 that came to be because of a blended wine made accidentally during a hectic harvest. To their delight, it turned out to be something special. Since then, the Got Grapes label has gone on to release many different vintages of blended wines and single variety carbonic Valdiguié – each one has stood out from the rest in the cellar. Got Grapes bottlings are meant to be fresher and lighter wines that you can chill and enjoy year-round. This year’s Got Grapes comes from a mix of red barrels from the cellar ranging from 2018 through 2020. It is a multi-grape, multi-vintage, light, and chillable red – a Broc California table wine sourced from every vineyard and every grape they work with.
