Dão, Portugal

The story of Casa de Mouraz is the story of Sara Dioniso and António Ribiero, who first met in Lisbon when Sara was a dancer and António was the editor of an arts & culture magazine.

António was born at Mouraz, in the heart of the Dão, on a property which his family has farmed for generations.  The property is incredibly diverse, with forests of oak, pine, chestnut, and cork interspersed with old & new vine plantings, shifting soils of granite and clay, and altitudes ranging from 150-400m.  They organically & biodynamically farm thirteen hectares of various grapes (4 white and 5 red varieties).

A crisp and mineral-driven blend of 60% Loureiro, 30% Avesso, 5% Arinto, 5% Azal, crushed and cold-soaked for 48hrs, fermented with indigenous yeasts over 3 months in temperature-controlled tanks.  Grown in granitic soils near Viana do Castelo, in the region of Vinho Verde, 8 km from the Atlantic ocean.

A field blend of 50-year-old Encruzado and Malvasia Fina, grown in vineyards on the mid-slope, at altitude of 400m on granitic soils.  Harvest was during the first half of September.  After crushing, the grapes were cold-soaked for 48hrs before slowly fermenting in temperature-controlled tanks for 3 months.

Light lemon colour with aromas of tangerine, gold delicious apple, white acacia and a hint of flint. On the palate, this nervy white is taut and fresh, with white grapefruit, Meyer lemon, mineral salinity and some smokiness.
