Two sisters, and their partners, with a passion for skin contact winemaking in the heart of the new wave of Eastern European winemaking. The family estate, Majer Zemianske Sady, has been in the family for over 100 years, but was taken away from them during the post-war communist period, and wasn’t reclaimed until the mid-1990s. Eventually the sisters felt the pull of their family heritage, becoming fifth- generation winemakers. They’ve been making delicious, wildly original wines since 2010, and in 2016 began their organic & biodynamic conversion.
Zsolt Suto from Strekov1075 helped the sisters Agnes and Katarina get their winey started on it’s low-intervention path when they first were getting started. Despite careers and comfortable city lives in Bratislava, eventually the sisters were tugged back to the land and the estate, feeling its deep connection to their family history

Dry Riesling. Aged in oak & egg. This was made during the 106th year of winemaking at the estate in honour of their grandfather Eduard Herzog. He preserved the family’s ownership titles which was the basis for Agnes and Katarina reclaiming the property with their parents.

This blend of Blaufrankisch and Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented and aged in clay amphoras, and displays buckets of spice, tingly forest fruits, and just enough of a herbal edge to add interest whilst keeping it accessible.
